Even though reality TV was already taking over MTV in the late 90s, it still had some cool shows that represented their old spirit: Daria, Downtown, Clone High, Jackass, Spy Groove. The McBling era was when they really overdosed on too much reality TV (The Hills, Laguna Beach, My Super Sweet 16) that has nothing to do with their old spirit.
